Sensis unveils new Aussie-targeted search engine
14 April 2005
A new Australian search engine is being launched by Sensis later this month.
The company claims that its new search engine is the best of its kind and has been designed exclsuively for Australians.
Henry Ruiz, senior producer responsible for the technology's development, said: "Nine of the 20 websites most visited by Australians are search engines, but the most popular international engines do not cater for the unique vocabulary and information that Australians look for in their search results."
Mr Ruiz said the search engine's index had been boosted by 20 per cent and the company had introduced contextual analysis of search terms and enhanced user interfaces.
"It is global," he continued. "It is looking at all the internet content around the globe, and trying to find the best pieces of it for an Australian audience, as opposed to having a US-centric engine that has been localised as an afterthought."
The enhanced search engine will help direct net traffic to Sensis's online empire, inlcuding White and Yellow Pages to Whereis, Trading Post, CitySearch and news.
The set of enhancements to its Sensis's search engine capabilities makes the service uniquely capable of detecting Australian content. Sensis, the advertising arm of Telstra, has grown to become one of Australia's biggest media groups.
