Sabre snaps up IgoUgo
5 April 2005
Sabre Holdings has announced that it has bought travel search engine IgoUgo.com.
The keyword travel search engine features a database of user reviews and travel journals written by its 350,000 members.
Sabre plans to add the destination search engine to its Travelocity online travel agent and its MySabre program for traditional travel agents. While Travelocity already offers some destination information, IgoUgo will add a community aspect to the online travel agent.
"What led us there was the fact that customers needed an easier tool to help with research and planning," Sabre general manager Calvin Evanoff said in an interview with Dow Jones. "We think this is a real opportunity for Sabre to get in this space and start learning."
Sabre is looking to expand the search engine to perform natural language searches. The company has not revealed how much it has paid for IgoUgo, or how much it expects to generate in revenue by selling ads.
