New Australian search engine launched

Optum Health has announced the official launch of Australia's newest search engine, Ansearch.com.au.

Ansearch.com.au offers demographic search, which enables users to refine searches based on age and gender, letting users view results based on the browsing habits of their peers.

Search results are sorted by relevancy and are then ranked by popularity based upon the browsing behaviour of Australian web users. The website also offers a detailed profile of popular websites as a preview to users.

The launch marks the introduction of paid search advertising on Ansearch and the search engine will record its first revenues in April 2005. The official unveiling of Ansearch follows a period of commercial testing.

"Unlike most other search engines, Ansearch cuts down the clutter by displaying the main search results as single websites and not the individual pages of websites," Optum said in a statement.

Ansearch CEO, Dean Jones said real estate was a huge category to search and had strong demographic biases. "The younger end of the market view more rental property sites while older age groups tend to search for commercial or investment property," he added.

"We can provide search results that are more relevant to the searcher based on the behaviour of Australian web users of similar age and gender," Mr Jones said.

In addition to demographic searching, a series of new search features will be introduced by Optum throughout April.
