Mozilla unveils Firefox upgrade

29 March 2005

Open source network Mozilla has launched an updated version of its flagship browser Firefox.

Firefox version 1.02 is available as a free download and the Mozilla foundation recommends all the existing users of the open source browser to upgrade to remain secure from bugs.

The bugs tackled by the update reportedly include drag and drop loading of privileged XUL, Arbitrary code execution from Firefox sidebar panel and GIF heap overflow parsing Netscape extension 2.

Mozilla has no plans to start a regular patch release cycle like some of the major software companies, but has promised to fix bugs as they arise.

The public version of Firefox was unveiled last year and it has since been downloaded more than 25 million times. It now claims around five per cent of the total web browser market share and plans to reach double figures by the end of the year.
