Yell reports advertising boost
16 February 2005
Yell Group, owner of the Yellow Pages directories, has announced that turnover in the UK rose by 4.3 per cent to £466.6 million in the nine months to December 31st.
The number of advertisers on Yell's website soared by 41. 5 per cent in the last nine months of the year.
The UK publisher reported that Yell.com advertisers rose to 133,000 in the period, while the firm's Yellow Pages saw a slight increase in advertisers to 354,000.
Turnover at Yell.com came in at £25.8 million over the nine months to December 31st.
Group revenues quickened towards the end of the year, beyond the 3.3 per cent growth seen in the first half of the group's financial year. The rise in profits came despite UK regulatory price caps, which cut the price of listings by an average of 3.4 per cent.
Pre-tax profits were £112.7 million, on sales of £897.9 million, compared with a loss of £91.5 million last year.
"We are confident of meeting expectations for the full year, as well as seeing a positive outlook beyond this," said chief executive John Condron.
