Aussie search engine surges in popularity
4 February 2005
New Australian search engine Ansearch is reportedly proving popular with web users.
Figures from analyst Hitwise indicate that Ansearch could be "the search engine to watch" in 2005 after its popularity surged by 2000 per cent shortly after its launch.
Unveiled in November 2004, Ansearch claims to deliver results based on the behaviour of the user and the popularity of a search key word.
Hitwise said the search engine debuted as the 120th most popular Australian search engine and by the end of December had shot up to 37th most popular. Latest figures from the online competitive intelligence company suggest that Ansearch is now the 27th most popular Australian site in its category, according to ZDNet Australia.
Weekly data from Hitwise also shows that almost 20 per cent of Ansearch users have bookmarked the site.
Hitwise said its statistics show that more than 60 per cent of Australian Internet users use local search engines.
