Yahoo boosts anti-spam efforts
21 October 2003
Yahoo has launched a number of new measures to prevent spam emails from flooding the accounts of its users, including a facility that scans attachments for viruses.
As of today subscribers to Yahoo's email service will be able to sort email into known and unknown senders, allowing them to pre-empt and block unwanted messages.
Users will also be granted up to 500 disposable email aliases, which can be used to exclusively collect spam before being dropped.
An online anti-spam resource centre has also been created, in which users can find information, tips and advice on how best to tackle spam.
Jim Nail, a Forrester Research senior analyst, commented on the uses of Yahoo's new anti-spam enhancements:
'The biggest addition here is the scanning of attachments for viruses. This is something consumers will get a ton of value out of,' he said, according to Digit.
Yahoo has recently extended its search capabilities and closed deals with two different providers to provide downloadable films and games.
