Lycos discontinues email service
13 October 2003
Lycos UK has announced plans to discontinue its POP3 email service as of this month.
Users have been notified that the free email service will be unavailable form October 21 onwards.
However, messages will still be accessible through Outlook and Outlook Express through a new synchronisation tool.
The implementation of the new tool will mean users will be able to manipulate folders in Outlook and have the same actions automatically happen in Lycos' web interface.
A spokesman for Lycos said bosses had made a 'business decision' to cancel the POP3 service. A new 'premium' email service is due for launch later this month costing subscribers £12 per year.
