Trillian users regain Yahoo connection
10 October 2003
Cerulean Studios' Trillian instant-messaging software has released a patch that promises users access to Yahoo services.
Prior to the release of the patch users of Trillian's free and paid-for services were denied access to Yahoo buddy lists.
Now they will be able to integrate buddy lists from Yahoo Messenger as well as AOL Instant Messenger and MSN Messenger.
Trillian's popularity stems from the fact that it allows users to combine separate buddy lists under one interface, but this has not received welcome from all IM services.
Yahoo last month upgraded its systems in an attempt to block Trillian from integrating its buddy lists, but the new patch overcomes these upgrades.
Microsoft announced plans in August to shut out Trillian users from its messenger network altogether unless a contract was reached with Cerulean Studios, a measure that will come into effect next week.
AOL has not taken any steps to block Trillian from its network, as of yet.
