Internet attracts younger audience
30 September 2003
New research reveals that an increasing number of youngsters are logging on to the Internet across Europe.
Figures show that over 13 million European children use the Internet, an increase of three million since last year.
According to Nielson four million of these users are under 12, one of the fastest growing categories of web users.
The UK is reported to have the highest percentage of children online in Europe, a development that some are linking to increased broadband availability.
'What we're seeing now is families using the Internet,' market analyst Tom Ewing told WebUser. 'It's likely that this is linked with the growth of broadband access - perhaps when they're not paying for access by the minute, parents are likely to let children use and explore the web more.'
MSN has recently closed its chatrooms in an attempt to protect vulnerable users such as young children.
