Yahoo! unveils mobile Local Search service

Internet firm Yahoo! has launched a new mobile feature for its Yahoo! Local offering.

The new Yahoo! Local mobile service enables users to send their local business search results from their PC direct to their mobile phone via text message.

Yahoo! is charging nothing for the new service, though individual wireless carriers may charge fees for receiving the text message on a mobile handset.

The Yahoo! Local mobile service is available on Cingular Cingular/AT&T Wireless, Verizon, Sprint/Nextel and T-Mobile. Users simply click on a button labelled "send to phone" which accompanies all result listings to send searches straight to their phone.

A Yahoo! spokesperson said: "Increasingly, our users are going mobile. With this, we want to help them take their Yahoo Local information with them on their mobile phone."

Yahoo! has not revealed yet whether it plans to present adverts alongside mobile listings.
