Yahoo! announces video search tab

Yahoo! has announced on its blog that the company is integrating video search into tabs on the Yahoo! front page.

Yahoo! Video Search has been available in an experimental form since last month. The new service scours the web for video clips and will soon include news clips from Bloomberg and the BBC that are indexed by closed-captioning. Yahoo!'s current list of feed partners includes Real Networks, AtomFilms, and IFILM.

Yahoo! users can search for links to videos posted on the internet and some video content, including music videos and film trailers, is now available on Yahoo.com. The website also offers ways for publishers to submit their videos for inclusion.

Yahoo! wrote on its website: "Since our initial release of Yahoo! Video Search in December, Video Search has been attracting a lot of attention (Steve Rubel, Joseph Scott, Marc Canter, and others), and the momentum has continued to build. Clearly a lot of you are interested in finding video on the web.

"As Gary Price said earlier today, we'll be adding a Video Search tab on the front page of Yahoo! tonight, making it easier to find and use.

"We're also integrating it into tabs on search.yahoo.com."

Google is also planning to launch Google Video, which works by archiving the closed-captioning text, which broadcasters provide for the deaf. The search engine plans eventually to obtain permission to show clips.
